Missed on Monday, Metastatic by Friday:Skin Cancer in Primary Care: Critical Clues NPs & PAs Can’t Afford to Ignore
Skin cancer remains the most diagnosed malignancy in the United States, affecting nearly one in five Americans by age 70 and continuing to cause preventable morbidity and mortality. Primary care NPs and PAs are often the first—and sometimes only—clinicians to evaluate suspicious lesions, yet rising incidence, atypical presentations, and evolving treatment options have made early detection increasingly complex. This session delivers practical, high-yield guidance on risk stratification, lesion recognition, biopsy decision-making, and referral thresholds, while reviewing advances in dermoscopy, surgical and non-surgical therapies, and prevention counseling. Attendees will gain confidence in recognizing skin cancer earlier, reducing missed diagnoses, and strengthening their role at the front line of this growing public health challenge.
The Skin is Speaking – Are You Listening?:Dermatology for Primary Care
Dermatology remains one of the most visually complex and fast-evolving fields in medicine. As the body’s largest organ, the skin reflects thousands of disease states—now amplified by rising skin cancer rates, inflammatory disorders, immune-mediated disease, medication reactions, and post-viral presentations. Yet many primary care providers receive limited formal dermatology training despite being the first to evaluate many skin complaints. This session provides a practical, pattern-based framework to help NPs and PAs confidently assess common rashes, lesions, and growths, recognize red flags, and apply updated diagnostic tools and treatment strategies. Emphasis is placed on real-world decision-making, newer therapies, and knowing when to treat, monitor, or refer—turning uncertainty into clarity in everyday primary care practice.
Break
Little Patients, Big Decisions: Pediatric Dermatology for Primary Care:
Caring for pediatric and adolescent skin conditions presents unique and evolving challenges for primary care providers. Children are not simply “small adults”—weight-based dosing, developmental physiology, limited pediatric clinical trials, frequent off-label use, and age-specific safety concerns complicate diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, rising rates of atopic disease, acne, hair and nail disorders, viral lesions, pigmentary changes, and concerning nevi demand earlier recognition and confident management. This session offers a practical, age-appropriate approach to evaluating common—and commonly frustrating—pediatric skin findings, highlighting updated diagnostic strategies, newer therapies, and clear guidance on when to reassure, treat, or refer. Designed to simplify complexity, this overview equips NPs and PAs to care for young patients with greater confidence and clarity in everyday primary care practice.
Lunch & Learn: Working to Break the Fibromyalgia Stigma: From Diagnosis to Treatment Approach
More Candles and More Complaints: Managing Aging Skin in Clinics
Adults aged 65 and older are the fastest-growing population in the United States, and dermatologic complaints now dominate visits across primary care, assisted living, and long-term care settings. Aging skin is uniquely vulnerable due to barrier dysfunction, immune senescence, chronic disease, immobility, incontinence, and extensive polypharmacy—leading to high rates of pruritus, xerosis, drug eruptions, stasis dermatitis, intertrigo, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and infection. This session provides a practical, evidence-based framework for evaluating and managing common geriatric skin conditions, with emphasis on prevention, safer prescribing, updated diagnostic strategies, and newer therapeutic options. Special attention is given to recognizing red flags, avoiding common treatment pitfalls, and improving comfort, dignity, and quality of life for older adults across outpatient, assisted living, and long-term care environments.
Break
A Rash in Search for a Reason: Psychocutaneous Disorders at the Cross
Primary care NPs and PAs routinely evaluate skin complaints—but far less often are we trained to recognize when the skin is expressing psychological distress. Psychocutaneous disorders sit at the uncomfortable intersection of dermatology and mental health, presenting as pruritus without rash, excoriations, hair loss, delusional infestation, body-focused repetitive behaviors, or chronic dermatoses driven by stress, anxiety, or mood disorders. This session provides a practical, non-psychiatric framework to help frontline providers recognize the most common psychocutaneous conditions, ask the right history questions, and identify clinical clues that distinguish primary skin disease from skin manifestations of psychological distress. Through real-world cases and straightforward paradigms and pharmacological options, attendees will gain confidence in initiating compassionate conversations, avoiding diagnostic pitfalls, implementing initial management strategies, and knowing when—and how—to refer appropriately. Designed for busy primary care practice, this talk reframes psychocutaneous disease not as an intrusion, but as an essential competency in modern skin care.
Day 2 – Wednesday, September 15
Cardiology/EM
Registration & Breakfast
Level Up: Basics and “Advanced Basics” of EKG Interpretation
The road to becoming a competent interpreter of EKGs starts with mastering the basics of electrocardiography and recognizing how to apply these basics throughout the science. You’ll relearn some of the foundational concepts that might have been glossed over when you first were taught EKGs. Then, you’ll apply them to real-life EKGs and see how having a strong grasp of these basics can solve common pain points in EKG understanding and speed up your interpretation of more complex tracings.
The Office: Primary Care Cardiology Case Studies
EKG interpretation isn’t just for clinicians who practice in hospital settings. As we know, it’s common for patients to potentially mis-triage themselves and present to office-based practices after experiencing symptoms that should probably have sent them to an emergency department. We’ll review case studies of patients who seem “fine” at the time but have critical EKG findings that suggest an emergency medical condition lurking under the surface. We’ll also discuss some case studies of patients and their EKGs that may look concerning initially but would likely not benefit from treatment in an emergency department.
Break
By The Numbers: Six Chest Pain Killers and Three Big Documents
When considering a patient with chest pain, it’s important to start with a broad differential diagnosis. However, a recent study suggests that there are only six life-threatening chest pain conditions. We’ll discuss the risk factors, pertinent history, and exam findings associated with each of these six chest pain killers. In addition, we’ll review three important documents from the recent literature that you probably didn’t learn about in school, and how understanding their key points is critical for the modern diagnostic evaluation of patients with chest pain.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad SCAD: Spontaneous Coronary Artery Di
Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is the most common reason for myocardial infarctions in young women. What complicates the diagnosis of this potentially lethal condition is that risk factors for SCAD are completely different than traditional myocardial infarction risk factors. We’ll use an unforgettable case study to highlight these nontraditional risk factors for myocardial infarction that you must know. Then, we’ll talk about immediate life-saving treatments and how they may differ from traditional acute coronary syndrome management. Finally, we’ll rehearse how to present this patient to a consultant using a format you can apply to quickly summarize any critical patient who needs specialty management.
Break
Crooked Lines, Cutting Edge: Modern MI/Ischemia Equivalents and
The American College of Cardiology recently updated what it considers to be STEMI equivalents and ischemia equivalents. With these new guidelines, there is an emphasis on additional potentially pathologic EKG findings that suggest the need for life-saving therapies for which time is of the essence. Meanwhile, the science of electrocardiography continues to advance and further refines our ability to disposition patients appropriately. Go beyond the guidelines to hear the very latest from EKG literature on can't-miss findings and where the science is headed.
Day 3 – Thursday, September 16
Orthopedics
Registration & Breakfast
Strong Foundations: Exploring Orthopedic Basics
An orthopedic approach starts with history, focusing on mechanism of injury and onset of symptoms, followed by a targeted physical exam. Appropriate imaging, such as X-rays or MRI, can help to confirm diagnosis, but do we always need one. Initial management includes proper immobilization to protect the injury. Timely referrals are important for severe injuries, neurovascular compromise, or cases requiring specialized care.
A Practical Approach to Orthopedic Imaging
This interactive presentation is designed to sharpen participants’ ability to confidently identify and describe basic fractures and dislocations using accurate, standardized terminology. Through practical examples and plain X-ray review, attendees will learn how to recognize common injury patterns and translate what they see into clear, meaningful communication. Emphasis will be placed on improving discussions with orthopedic colleagues, reducing vague descriptions, and enhancing diagnostic accuracy—all while making fracture talk a little less intimidating and a lot more effective.
Break
Decoding Upper Extremity Fractures and Musculoskeletal Injuries
Break down the mysteries of upper-extremity injuries! From tricky fractures to sneaky dislocations and soft tissue surprises, this session gives clinicians a practical, no-nonsense approach to spotting, treating, and preventing complications—without getting lost in the jargon. Perfect for APPs and anyone who wants MSK made simple (and a little fun).
Sponsored Lunch or Lunch on Your Own
Lower Extremity MSK Trauma: A Clinician’s Practical Guide
This session provides a focused, practical approach to evaluating and managing lower-extremity musculoskeletal injuries. Key topics include fracture patterns, joint dislocations, soft tissue injuries, imaging strategies, and tips for timely intervention to prevent long-term deformity and dysfunction. Emphasis is on real-world clinical decision-making for physicians, PAs, and other frontline providers.
Break
Growth Plates, Fractures, and Beyond: Pediatric Orthopedics Simplified
This lecture provides a practical overview of common pediatric orthopedic conditions, emphasizing growth plate injuries, fracture patterns unique to children, and high-risk diagnoses. It focuses on systematic evaluation, imaging principles, and key red flags to support safe and effective clinical decision-making.
Day 4 – Friday, September 17
Men & Women's Health
Breakfast
Hot Flashes, Cold Feet: Rethinking Hormone Therapy for Women in Pr
Are you hesitant to prescribe hormone therapy to women? You are not alone. Women’s health has undergone a seismic shift, and many clinicians were trained during a time of uncertainty and caution. This session is designed to rebuild confidence by providing clear context and practical guidance. We will revisit the Women’s Health Initiative—what it showed, what it did not, and how our understanding has evolved—using a concise timeline of evidence. Participants will review key definitions, appropriate screening, recommended laboratory evaluation, indications and contraindications, and both lifestyle-based and prescription treatment options to support women through the menopausal transition. Cardiovascular and cancer risks will be addressed head-on. You will leave this session as a menopause -informed provider, ready to rethink, revitalize, and strengthen care for your patients.
Precision Prescribing for Women’s Mental Health: How to Utilize Phar
In this session, we will explore the practical use of pharmacogenomic testing in women’s mental health care. Beginning with a brief history and overview, we will review core principles of pharmacogenomics, refresh key concepts related to the CYP450 system, and place this
information within the broader landscape of mental health in women. Through clinical examples and case-based discussion, participants will examine where pharmacogenomic testing is most helpful in practice and consider opportunities to expand pharmacologic treatment strategies with greater confidence and precision.
Break
Saving Mothers Starts Here: Prioritizing OB in Primary Care
Maternal mortality is out of control—and this is not solely an obstetric problem. It is a primary care problem. Primary care clinicians are uniquely positioned to serve as the maternal safety net before, during, and after pregnancy, yet many providers feel underprepared or uncomfortable managing obstetric-related concerns, particularly hypertensive disorders. This session reframes maternal safety as a core primary care responsibility and focuses on practical, evidence-informed strategies to improve outcomes. Emphasis is placed on recognizing opportunities to save mothers through improved hypertension management across the reproductive lifespan, including preconception counseling, pregnancy care, and the critical
postpartum period. Participants will leave with actionable approaches to better prioritize and confidently manage OB patients in primary care settings today.

Let’s Talk Testosterone: Basics & Beyond
This session is designed to demystify a hormone that is most
commonly associated with men, yet has an important and evolving role in select female treatment plans as well. We will begin with a focused review of testosterone physiology, followed by evidence-based screening practices, indications, and contraindications, framed within traditional male and female prescribing contexts. Participants will then review available formulations and current FDA approvals. The session will conclude with practical guidance on monitoring, dose adjustment, and discontinuation of therapy. Throughout, prescribing decisions will be grounded in the WHO six-step prescribing framework to support safe, intentional, and patient-centered care. By the end of this session, participants will be able to effectively evaluate
appropriate candidates for testosterone therapy, select evidence-based treatment options, and apply structured prescribing principles to optimize patient outcomes.

New News! Rapid Fire Updates in Men’s Health
What’s the “New News!” in men’s health? This rapid-fire session delivers a high-yield update on what’s hot, what’s fading, and what every primary care clinician needs to know now. Men are entering the healthcare system through new and evolving pathways—what’s driving that shift, and how should primary care respond? On the prevention front, we’ll review critical guideline updates across the lifespan. You’ll also receive a concise update on pharmacologic therapies relevant to men’s health, highlighting what’s new alongside time-tested standards. We’ll close by exploring emerging technologies that support men in self-managing their health and engaging more effectively in care. This session is a curated potpourri of timely, practical highlights designed to inform, energize, and update your practice. We want you at 100%, not just at 96%
