Women’s Health CME: Learn, Network, and Make an Impact

January is Cervical Awareness Month – a time when the medical community seeks to increase awareness and education about vaccines and screenings, both of which can make cervical cancer a preventable disease. That’s why, at Skin, Bones, Hearts & Private Parts, we prioritize Women’s Health CME that equips clinicians with the knowledge and tools needed to improve prevention, early detection, and patient outcomes.

Nearly all cases of cervical cancer, in fact, are caused by infections with high-risk strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), and the HPV vaccine currently used in the U.S., Gardasil 9, can protect against seven high-risk HPV strains responsible for causing cancer and two known for causing genital warts. Approved for males and females ages 9 to 45, research has shown that cervical cancer incidence is declining rapidly in young women who were most likely to have received the HPV vaccines. For instance, a study showed that in women under 25 years old in the United States, cervical cancer incidence decreased by 65% from 2012 to 2019.

In addition to preventative vaccines, screening tests can detect cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more effective. Screening includes the well-known “Pap test,” which can detect cells that might indicate that cancer is present. Another test can detect an infection with high-risk HPV. In May 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first at-home device for Pap smears, where individuals can collect samples themselves and send them in for tests.

The Importance of Women’s Health-focused CME

At Skin, Bones, Hearts & Private Parts, women’s health has always been a focus for us – at our in-person CME Conferences and via our Online CME options. Education, we believe, can make a real difference for half the population, which has historically suffered from inequities in health care:

“A lack of cultural and gender sensitivity, as well as a lack of knowledge about specific health concerns of women, can impact women’s health. The health needs of women can be very different from those of men, and health needs vary from woman to woman, depending on factors such as age, ethnicity/race, and sexual orientation. Healthcare providers who receive training are better equipped to care for the diverse population of women in the U.S.,” pointed out a study in New Dimensions in Women’s Health.
