It’s not just a resume.

What is a Curriculum Vitae (CV)? A CV is a snapshot of who you are, what you have accomplished, what type of leader you are, and how you rank with your peers. How do you make your CV stand out from the rest? It starts with you and your commitment to going above and beyond.

Your CV should include:

  • Educational background and any High Honors you may have received
  • Current and past employment that highlights your skills and knowledge – this should be relevant to what you are doing
  • Clinical Research
  • Publications
  • Leadership positions
  • Certifications/Fellowships/Special Training
  • Speaker Bureaus/Advisory Boards/Consultant Work
  • Organizations – are you just a member or are you on a committee or in a leadership position?
  • Community service and outreach programs

How often should I update my CV?

Anytime you have done something new – if you have learned a new skill; started speaking for a company or spoke at a conference; have been published; are working on a research project or volunteering for a charitable cause. A good rule of thumb is to update quarterly or bi-annually. This will keep your CV fresh and exciting.

How long should my CV be?

An average CV is two – three pages in length. But there are no limitations to a CV. My CV is personally 12 pages long. It tells the story of my accomplishments, and so your CV should tell your story.

How will my CV benefit me?

A curriculum vitae is the first impression for those considering you for a position with a new practice, a pharmaceutical company, or a clinical research team. A well thought out CV can initiate an interview and open endless opportunities. It can also be a negotiating tool for a contract or an addendum to an existing contract.

This is your opportunity to brag about your accomplishments. Remember you are worth more than just mediocracy. Don’t you think it is time that you take your CV to the next level.
