May is Mental Health Awareness Month

10,000 steps a day…check! Staying hydrated…check!

What about your mental health?

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we invite you to join us in honoring this important aspect of our overall health. An area that is often overlooked, mental health plays a great role in our well-being. As important as our physical activity and nutrition.  Let’s fight the stigma of mental health and share ways to take care of ourselves and loved ones.

Mental health refers to our emotional, behavioral, and social well-being.

5 ways to check-in with your mental health

#1 Exercise

Nothing lifts our endorphins like a good workout. And this can be tailored to your needs, time, and physical capacity. Anything from a hard cardio session or a simple 30 min walk will help ease stress, anxiety, negative thoughts, and will also help you sleep better at night.

#2 Don’t Bottle It Up

Talking about your feelings and anxieties is one of the best ways to clear your mind and help you relax. Call a friend, a family member, or a trained therapist and let it all out. Keeping negativity wrapped up inside will lead to worse outcomes later.

#3 Eat Healthy

Easier said than done, especially on a busy work schedule. But eating healthy, whole foods will keep your body and brain regulated and will offer the proper nutrients and balance to keep you upbeat and moving forward.

#4 Do A Hobby

Find something that you are good at or love to do, and do it! Keeping your mind busy on a positive activity will help relieve tensions and stress.

#5 Ask For Help

Above all, if you feel down, depressed, anxiety-ridden, or just not your normal self, ask for help. The only way to diagnose and treat our mental health anxieties and depressions is first to allow them to be known. Nothing is shameful about reaching out for help and getting the treatment you need.
